| Jordan Skinner joins Team BRM For Australian Formula Ford Championship |
 |
(8/12/2008) It will only be his second year in car racing – but 18-year-old South Australian Jordan Skinner’s second year in Formula Ford competition will likely be a big one.
Though he hails from the country town of Kadina near South Australia’s Copper Coast – Jordan will be looking for Gold in 2009 when he contests the Australian Formula Ford Championship with Team BRM.
After a successful Karting career but just one year behind the wheel of a racing car, 2009 will mark a massive step forward for the youngster, based two hours north of Adelaide.
Skinner raced with Team BRM in the Victorian State Formula Ford 1600cc championship in 2008, finishing fifth outright in his rookie year in a season that included several podium finishes. Skinner will drive a Mygale SJ09 chassis as part of Team BRM’s return to national Formula Ford competition with a three-car team.
“It’s been a big learning curve for me but hopefully I can take what I’ve learnt this year and take it into next year in the National series,” Jordan Skinner said.
“Team BRM have been great to me and I don’t think I would have achieved the results I did this year without their help and support so I’m excited to be working with them again next year.
“I’ve never had many problems learning new circuits so I think I can go out and be quick from the first round. I’m going to go out looking to keep my nose clean, use my head and with some car speed get up towards the top five or top eight. “
Skinner said that next year should prove to be an excellent season to be joining the national ranks, with a host of new drivers set to enter the series.
“There are a lot of good drivers in Formula Ford at the moment that will be good to have in the series to benchmark myself against,” he said.
“Guys like Ben (Small, Team BRM teammate in ’09) and Luke Ellery are very quick. It will be a competitive championship which will only help me forward.”
“We have been very impressed with Jordan’s approach to his first year in car racing, and the results that have followed; it’s clear he’s a natural talent,” Team BRM Manager Mark Rundle said.
“His first year in Formula Fords exceeded everyone’s expectations. To do what he did in the Victorian series in his first year of car racing was impressive.
“Stepping up to the National series full-time is a massive leap forward in his career and we know it will take time for him to adapt and come to grips with a very competitive series – but the team is very confident that he will adapt quickly.
“We know it will take time to learn, but having said that – I’m certain that solid results will be forthcoming sooner rather than later in 2009." he said.
The 2009 Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship kicks off at the FORMULA 1 (TM) ING Australian Grand Prix on March 26-29.
